Following graduation from Princeton University with a degree in chemical engineering and Seton Hall with a Juris Doctorate, William Long had a successful first career as a corporate patent attorney, rising to the rank of Director of Patents and Licensing for the Halcon SD Group, where he personally represented his company in Paulik v. Rizkalla, 760 F.2d 1270 (Fed. Cir. 1985). His second career was in private practice until his retirement in 2007.
