The Honorable Gail J. Standish, Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California
Prior to her appointment, Judge Standish was a partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, where she concentrated her practice in patent litigation and other complex business disputes. Prior to joining Winston & Strawn, Judge Standish served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California and as a law clerk for the late Judge William J. Rea. She began her career at Irell & Manella LLP and also practiced at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP. From her long career in government and private practice, she has extensive experience handling both civil and criminal trials.
Judge Standish was selected several times as one of California’s Top Intellectual Property Litigators and Top Women Litigators by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journals. She has been named an Angelino To Know In Intellectual Property Law by the L.A. Business Journal and ranked in the IAM Patent 1000 “World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.”
Judge Standish graduated from UCLA Law School, where she served as an Articles Editor of the UCLA Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif upon graduation. Before attending law school, Judge Standish was an engineer, having graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She served as an Air Force officer and Flight Test Engineer for the F-16 Falcon aircraft in the 1980s, and later worked on life sciences experiments that flew on the Space Shuttle.
