Matthew Hayenga is an experienced patent attorney with over 20 years practicing intellectual property law, focusing primarily on patent litigation, licensing, and prosecution. Mr. Hayenga is Assistant General Counsel & Senior Vice-President for intellectual property with Bank of America, responsible for directing the company’s patent strategy, portfolio development, and IP litigation. Previously, Mr. Hayenga was the Head of Intellectual Property for the Surgical Franchise at Alcon, where he oversaw patent prosecution, litigation, licensing, and freedom-to-operate work for the company’s cataract, vitreoretinal, and surgical glaucoma franchises. Prior to that, Mr. Hayenga spent several years as Alcon’s Head of IP Litigation & Patent Strategy, handing the company’s Hatch-Waxman/generic drug litigation, among other things. A graduate of Harvard Law School and Rice University, Mr. Hayenga also practiced as an attorney with Baker Botts in Dallas, TX, and clerked for the Honorable Sharon Prost at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC.
